Saverio George Girimonti

February 22, 1925 January 8, 2020
Sam’s parents emigrated from Calbria, Italy by steam ship via Ellis Island and settled in Brooklyn NY where he and his two sisters were born and raised.

He served in the United States Navy, during World War II transporting supplies to US Armed Forces and Allies around the world. He was awarded the American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal, European Theater Medal, and the Victory Medal.

After the war ended he married Mariana Cincotta and had four children which they raised in Valley Stream, Long Island. He provided a good and happy home for his family.

Sam was a Structural Engineer for major NYC engineering firms where he worked on the design of bridges, dams, roads, etc. The last 20 years of his career were spent with The Port Authority of NY & NJ supervising the maintenance of the structural integrity of NY & NJ bridges and ports of entry.

He led a full life and was nearly 95 when he passed away. He was a man of strong moral fiber; a kind, thoughtful, and honest person. He was a good friend. Sam loved music, the opera, and was a dance enthusiast. He  could often be found on the dance floor twirling his partner around.

Sam is survived by his four children, four grandsons, two great granddaughters who, along with other family and the many friends he has made over his lifetime, will miss him greatly.

The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 1511 Buenos Aires Blvd., The Villages, FL 32159.
