Obituary of Donald J. Clining
THE VILLAGES – Donald J. Clining, 87, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his parents Leona and Thurman Clining and brother Rod. He was born in Saginaw, MI, graduated from Flint Northern High School and proudly served four years in the Navy. He retired from Jaguar Cars, Inc. in 1991 as District Sales Manager, covering six states.
Don had a lifelong love affair with sports cars and was a long time member of Waterford Hills Road Racing Club, owning and racing many cars over the years and so enjoyed the many friends he made there. He was a founding member of the Northeastern Michigan Club of SCCA and was a trusting and loyal friend to many along the way. He loved football, snowmobiling, fishing and hunting with his brother and longtime friends and loved traveling the world with his “bride”.
A favorite saying when asked “How are You?” he would reply “If I was any better I’d get arrested” to anyone who asked and we heard it often!
He is survived by his “Bride”, Shirleen, nephew, Doug (Paula) Robinson of Michigan; niece, Dianna (Pat & sons) Pinizzotto of Florida; nephew Barry (& sons) Oriente; Brian (Julie & son) Oriente and niece, Chris Oriente, all of Illinois.
Inurnment will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL on March 30th at 1:00pm. A celebration of his life to follow.
