Obituary of Robert Lee Weldon
Robert Lee Weldon, 60, of Summerfield, Florida passed away December 1, 2019 in Summerfield, FL.
Robert was born on July 14, 1959 in Jasper, Alabama to Virgil and Rosemarie (Dietz) Weldon. He was a Massage Therapist.
Robert is survived by his mother, Rosemarie Weldon of Summerfield, FL, companion, Diane Sandler of Summerfield, FL and brothers, Martin Weldon of Jacksonville, AL and Richard Weldon of Summerfield, FL. He is also survived by children; Sarah, Jennifer, Cory, Jessica and Robert. He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Edward Weldon.
Rob was a remarkably talented man. If he didn’t know how to do something, he’d learn. He could fix anything.
Rob loved rainbows. He loved sunsets. He loved a perfect flower. He loved his family. And he loved Diane.
He was never interested in gaining possessions, only friends. Rob would be the first person to pitch in if someone needed help. Perhaps that’s why he became a licensed massage therapist.
He was always trying to keep his mind sharp: he played Chess on-line, he enjoyed crossword puzzles and brain teasers, he often worked on jigsaw puzzles in the community center, and recently had started to design game rooms on-line again.
Two years ago, he asked me to teach him how to sew. Beginning with 2 dresses for his granddaughters, he quickly progressed until he was creating tailored, unique, colorful shirts for himself and others. It was never too tedious to re-do something if it wasn’t perfect. He became the first male member of the American Sewing Guild local chapter.
Four years ago, he started to take dance lessons. He became very proficient. He would watch YouTube videos over and over to learn more new moves. There was never a night when we didn’t get numerous compliments about how wonderful we looked when we danced together. He was so proud when he became president of the dance club.
Rob was a great cook, too. In his younger years, he had worked in restaurants. His mom would do the chopping and prepping, and he’d put it all together into great meals.
He enjoyed gardening, growing all kinds of vegetables and fruits, always experimenting to see what grew well in Florida heat. He even tried his hand at hydroponic gardening and he created his own blends of potions to feed his plants - all natural, all organic.
In time, we will all find peace and joy in the memories of Rob. May he always hold a special place in everyone’s heart. I was so very privileged to have known and loved him for 4 years.
