Charles Barnes

Obituary of Charles Edward Barnes

Charles Edward Barnes, 76, of Ocala, Florida (formerly of Prospect, Connecticut) died in his home on November 19, 2019. Charlie was born May 21, 1943 in New Haven, CT to Georgiana (Ludington) and Merritt Eugene Barnes, Sr., the 5th of 8 children.

Charlie was an avid boater and fisherman and was happiest on the water. He loved going fishing every week during the summer competing with his buddies to see on who’s boat the largest fish would be caught. He told many fish tales! He also enjoyed kayaking with his daughter when they got together at his summer home on Lake Ontario, and spending time with his sons every chance he could. Family was the most important thing to him.

Charlie had a great sense of humor and could always be seen with a smile on his face and joy in his heart. He was a child at heart and his grandchildren loved spending time with him.

Charlie was predeceased by his parents, his wife Dawn (Nebor) Barnes, his second wife Jean (Smith) Barnes, and his brother Ernest (Bud) Barnes. He is survived by his grandchildren, daughter Cynthia Athanasiou, son Craig Barnes, three step-sons Ronald Cabral, Jr., Dean Cabral, and Jason Cabral, brothers Kenneth Barnes, Merritt Barnes, Jr., Roger Barnes, and sisters Georgiana McCurry, Patricia Robinson, and Anna DeRose, as well as many nieces and nephews.
