Obituary of Lucy Marie Hancock

Lucy Marie Hancock, 79, of Ocala, Florida passed away, surrounded by family, on Friday, August 23, 2019. Marie was born September 11, 1939 in Danville, VA and legally adopted by William and Grace Collie. After graduating from Worsham High School in Farmville, VA, Marie went on to work for Dan River Cotton Mills in Danville, VA and then International GE in Washington, DC. In her early years of marriage, she traveled the world in support of her husband’s career. Marie lived in Germany, Ethiopia and The Philippines before returning to the United States. Her husband’s travels continued in the United States. They lived in Tulsa, OK; Baltimore, MD; Hollywood, MD; Chesapeake, VA and finally retiring to Ocala, FL in 1993. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Marie spent many hours volunteering in the school library, PTA and substitute teaching at her son’s elementary school. During her retirement, Marie continued to volunteer; helping with the local girl’s golf clinic for many years. She loved playing golf, gardening, reading and doting on her grandchildren. Marie is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert Allen Hancock of Ocala, FL; son Todd (Jill) Hancock of Oviedo, FL; 2 grandchildren, Alexis Marie Hancock and Tyler Sterling Hancock and sister Addie Oakes of Ocoee, FL.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019, 2:00 PM at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd.  Ocala, FL  34470  (352)-629-7171. Family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church c/o Adopt a Student, 2021 W.
