Bill and Barb were the first friends my husband Dale chose for me to meet when we started dating. The Loppnows were held in high esteem and Dale had spoken of them fondly and said they had been supportive, encouraging, and a marriage to emulate for him through the years. He selected the perfect couple! Both were immediately warm and welcoming as we quickly engaged in a scavenger hunt at the Villages. Bill, in his infinite wisdom, put Barb and I in our own golf cart. We bonded quickly in an attempt to “beat the guys” as we raced around the property and became friends. The next day, Bill got out his camera and we had “prom night”, with many wonderful photographs-photography was one of so many of Bill’s talents. When we left the Loppnow’s home, the last thing Bill said to Dale was, “don’t mess this up.” The last thing he said to me was, “take care of my friend.”
We enjoyed many more adventures together and Bill even made it to our beach wedding, although he had just had heart surgery. I never got to tell Bill that I was going to ask him to walk me down the aisle, it would have been my honor; however, I did not want to tax his health.
The close bond between Bill and Dale was heartwarming and their mutual love of their families and friends endearing. The last time we saw Bill was to celebrate Barb’s birthday. Even though he was not feeling well, he wanted her day to be special for her. I have so many wonderful memories of time spent with Bill and Barb. Playing golf and my lessons he gave me, TMI, Disney Springs, Mt. Dora, Don McClean, church, etc… and just special time cherished with very special people. Bill’s smile and thoughtful and kind ways will always make me smile. His love of Barb and his family and friends will remain in all of our hearts.

Please accept my deepest sympathy over the passing of your beloved husband and father. I was saddened to learn of Bill's passing. He was an exceptional human being and will be greatly missed.
I worked for Bill during the years,1981-1982, in the Merchandising Division at the Caterpillar headquarters in Peoria. During this short time I was impressed by Bill's most positive leadership. He was a strong leader but always fair. Even though he was our supervisor, we thought of him more as a team leader rather than a "boss" in the traditional sense of the word. He exhibited Christian values at all times. Although I only worked for a short time for Bill and had many other bosses during my 34 year career, he was the supervisor for whom I had the most respect. He certainly was an outstanding human being in every way, and he had a big impact on me. I feel very fortunate to have known him!

It's hard to summarize in a few words what Bill Loppnow meant to all of us. I have known Bill for almost 50 years. Our friendship started when I joined Caterpillar ... then we became very close when working together directly in the early 1980s He was the epitome of a friend ... more often a mentor since his advice was so valuable on work issues, family issues or life in general. He was such a clear thinker so it was always great to bounce ideas or concerns off him. He was always patient with his time. First and foremost, he simply listened. His sense of humor was remarkable and remember belly laughing with him often during our talks. He was a man of great faith which also served him well. He could face adversity as well as anyone I know ... I always admired his grace under pressure. He was a role model and mentor to so many. It seemed the more Bill was exposed to the ups and downs of life, distress and even tragedy, he preserved, got stronger and even more considerate. He said to me lately that he felt he had lived a good life and most certainly he did ... it was a life well-lived. His beloved family is a testament to this. May he rest in peace.

Barb and family,
Jan and I were deeply saddened this morning to read of Bill’s passing. I have so many fond memories of Bill while we worked together for so many years at Cat. He was a dedicated employee and an even more treasured work friend. Bill spoke so proudly and openly of his love for you, Barb, and his entire family. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word and treated everyone with genuine respect. I am honored to have known him and worked along side him. Jan and I wish to express our deepest sympathies to you and the family.
Our kindest regards,
Tim and Jan Cunningham

I enjoyed working with Bill -- he was a man of integrity, hard working and reliable. So it was no surprise when I met his family -- he had a loving wife and two respectful and polite sons. It was clear work was important to Bill -- but his wife and family were the most important. I learned from Bill -- both and work and in life. I am thankful I knew Bill!

For over 50 years "Lopps" was always available to listen and talk about anything. He was supportive of my many endeavors and had the patience of a Saint with my attempt at golf. Our monthly conversations will be sorely missed as well as his sense of humor. During our fraternity years he was one of the "sane" ones in our "house" and could always be depended on for solutions.
My heart is missing a piece, because he is gone from this life and I cherish all the memories we have shared. God bless and hit em' long and straight (as usual) your Brother in T/he Bond, Rick Frederick
