Lee Baker
Lee David Baker, 81, resident of The Villages, FL formerly of Tampa, FL and Jefferson, OH passed away February 2, 2019 at his home with his loving wife Kathy holding his hand.
Lee was born October 7, 1937 in Richmond Center, OH to Raymond and Gladys Baker. Proud US Marine from 1955 – 1958. He served in law enforcement for many years from Ashtabula, OH, Hillsborough County retired detective known as “Pops Baker” and also Sumter County Sheriff’s Department until Parkinson’s began to take it’s “toll.”
“Pops” was honest and hardworking and never gave up “especially on his cases.” He loved being a grandfather and a great-grandfather even more so when his only great-granddaughter entered his life. Lee remained active in golf, even if it was only nine holes. He enjoyed all sports in life baseball being one his all-time favorites. Lee was involved with the Devil Dogs (US Marines) Shriners where he received his 32nd degree, the Masons of 50 years and an honorary member of the Kentucky Colonels.
Lee is also survived by his daughter Lori Ann (Jeff) Allen; granddaughter Kimberly Allen Hasmi; great-granddaughter Jordyn Hasmi; and brother David (Delores). Lee was preceded in death by brothers Ronald and Darryl.
Graveside service will be Monday, March 4, 2019 at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. Celebration of Life will be following the graveside at 2:30 PM at HIERS-BAXLEY Funeral & Cremation Life Event Center, 3975 Wedgewood Lane, The Villages, FL 32162. Family suggests memorial donations may be given to Compassionate Care Hospice-The Villages, Shriners Hospitals for Children, or Parkinson’s Foundation.
