Obituary of Ronald John Aicher
Ronald John Aicher, 78, of Ocala, Florida passed away on January 24th, 2019 in Ocala, Florida
Ron was born in Philadelphia, PA to Stephen and Catherine Aicher on April 15th, 1940. He grew up in Croydon, PA and married Dorothy Sandra Sottung on May 4th, 1963 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Croydon, PA. Ron was the consummate entrepreneur. As a young man, Ron drove a bread truck and sold vacuums but was well known in the Delaware Valley and Tri-State Area as a member of The Aicher Brothers Band/The Town Criers. Together with his brothers Steve, Kenny and Keith, they toured most of the popular clubs and venues throughout the 1960s. His love of music led him to become a disc jockey in Burlington and later Atlantic City, NJ. In 1975 he moved his family to Mt. Dora where he purchased the AM radio station WGTW. Ever the entrepreneur Ron bought a newspaper in New Smyrna, FL., started a monthly magazine and opened an advertising agency. Advertising eventually led to partnering in an automobile dealership in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Ron loved the car business until his retirement in November of 2000. Ron was active in the community. He volunteered his time and business assets to many groups and served as president of the local AAU swim team. He covered local events either over the radio or via print and was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Mt. Dora. Ron was a devoted husband, loving father and avid golfer who enjoyed his many friends in Golden Hills at The Ocala National Golf Club. He will be sorely missed by the 11:30 men’s group and at karaoke.
Ron is preceded in death by his brothers, Steven, Kenneth, Keith and Mark and his parents Stephen and Catherine.
Ron is survived by his beautiful wife Dottie, his son Dean and wife Pam and their son Dean Jr., His daughter Kimmy and her husband Bryan and their children Kodi, Jake, Samantha, Zach and Phoebe. His daughter Christine and her children Dylan, Madison and Peyton and his daughter Candace and her husband Kris and their children Joey, Jenna, Jayden, Jaxson, Gage and Kaitlyn.
There will be a celebration of Ron’s life on February 17th from 4 to 8 PM at The Ocala National Golf Club where he and Dottie are longtime members.
