Obituary of Irene Mayer

Irene Mayer (90) of the Villages, Florida joined her savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday January 22, 2019.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband Melvin Mayer of 59 years.

Irene was born in New Leipzig, North Dakota, daughter of Dan & Maggie Haase, and is also preceded in death by her only sibling, Elmer.Haase.

Irene is survived by five children, Clyde ({Pat) of Bedford, Texas, Larry (Kathi) of Fargo, North Dakota, Floyd (Karen) of Phillips, Wisconsin, Colleen (Jim) Flores of the Villages, Florida, Cynthia (Joseph) Beckman of Monticello, Minnesota.  She was blessed with 14 Grandchildren, and 11 Great-Grandchildren.

Irene and Melvin were married in 1947.  They started their family in Western North Dakota and later moved to West Fargo in 1963.  In 1991, they retired and moved to The Villages, Florida.

Prior to retiring, Irene managed the custom decorating department for JC Penny in Fargo and then went on to work for Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota for 17 years.

Irene enjoyed traveling, dancing, playing cards and golf (two hole-in-one) with her many friends.  She was an active member and volunteer with her husband at Community United Methodist Church in Fruitland Park, Florida.

Above all, family was her greatest joy.  Irene’s last words to a family member were, “I LOVE MY FAMILY”
