Obituary of John Joseph McLaughlin Sr.

John “Jack” Joseph McLaughlin, Sr, age 83, of The Villages, FL, a family man of faith, morality and character passed away on January 16, 2019. He was born in Upper Darby, PA on February 11, 1935. Jack was a 1952 graduate of West Philadelphia Catholic Boys High School. He served in the US Navy. After his military service Jack returned home and joined his brother and father at Quaker Press in Upper Darby PA.. Jack married Patricia McManus in 1961 and moved to Swarthmore PA where they lived until retiring to Sea Isle City NJ, and then The Villages FL. He was an active volunteer at St Theresa Catholic Church and St Vincent dePaul as well as being a Knight of Columbus. He was a member of the Irish American Club and the Celtic Club and the American Legion. He enjoyed golfing and bowling, as well as spending time with his family and friends, especially his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Patricia McLaughlin; children Laura Techtmann, John (Geri Ann), Daniel (Lauri) and Patricia (Tom) Hurley; brother Francis (Gerry); 10 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.

A mass will be celebrated at St Timothy Catholic Church, 1351 Paige Place, The Villages, FL 32159 on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 8:30am. He will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Jude Children Research Hospital or Cystic Fibrosis Together, 228 Oxford Hill Lane, Havertown, PA 19083.
