Obituary of Walter Berg
Walter Berg, 92, of The Villages, Florida passed away January 16, 2019 at The Villages Regional Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Shirley Berg who preceded him on October 16, 2011.
Walter was born in Providence, Rhode Island, the youngest son of the late Knute and Ellen Berg of Trondheim, Norway. He had five siblings: Eleanor Crecilius, Ruth Benn, and brothers Leonard, Knute and Odvar.
He served his country during World War II in the US Navy as a Signalman Third Class aboard LCI 541 which delivered troops to Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion of France. After the war he worked his way up to become a Field Engineer for the Mobil Oil Corporation and stayed with them for 32 years, working in Providence, Boston, Los Angeles, and Portland, Maine.
In retirement he and Shirley settled in Flagler Beach, Florida, where they enjoyed dancing, golf and travel. They moved to the The Villages in 2010.
He is survived by his daughter Karen Berg of Charleston, SC, his son, Douglas Berg of Scituate, MA, his granddaughter, Jennifer Bramwell and great-grandson, Emmett Bramwell of Gunnison, Colorado, many nieces and nephews as well as his companion, Patricia Lytle of The Villages, FL.
He was a member of St. George Episcopal Church, The Villages, Florida.
Internment at The Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida will take place at a later date.
