Obituary of Iole T. Perka

Iole, T. “Lee” Perka, age 91, of The Villages, FL.  Born in Schenectady, NY in December of 1927.  She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Philadelphia, PA and then her Master’s Degree in Reading, Language Arts and Teachers Certification from the University of Pittsburgh, PA.  She was employed by the North Hills School District, which is a suburb of Pittsburgh and taught there for 23 years.  She was involved in different club activities and helped in many volunteer groups.  Mrs. Perka and her late husband, Tom moved to The Villages in 1995 and lived in the Rio Grande Village prior to moving to Freedom Pointe.  She and Tom engaged in golf and other sports and club activities, but her love was her volunteer activities with the Mark Twain Library, The Villages Chamber of Commerce, The Villages Lifelong Learning Center and served there for 14 years.  She also tutored the various grades at Lady Lake Elementary for 8 years and also was involved in The Pennsylvania Club and held various chairmanships there.  She was actively involved in The Villages Dance Club.

She is survived by her son, Alan Perka and his wife, Cathy, League City, TX; granddaughter, Leigh Perka of Columbus, MS, grandsons, Drew and Alex Perka, both of NJ.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Thomas Perka and her older son, Mark Perka.

A memorial gathering will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 1511 Buenos Aires Blvd., The Villages, FL 32159 on Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 2 to 4 PM.  A Mass will be held at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 1351 Paige Place, The Villages, FL 32159 on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 8:30 AM.  A Committal Service will follow at the Florida National Cemetery.
