Obituary of Paul Young
Young, Paul 88 Paul was born September 20, 1920 at Otway, Ohio, the son of Roy M. and
Lillia Berndt Young. He was graduated from East High School in Sciotoville, Ohio in 1937 and in
1941 he received a B.C.E. in Chemical Engineering from The Ohio State University. He was a member
of the SAE Fraternity. His career a s a Chem. Engineer took him to job sites across the U.S. and
around the world for employers Shell Oil, Celenese Corp. and Swindell-Dressler Engineering.
Throughout his adult life, Paul was an active member of The Lions Club, Masonic Lodge and NSPE
Society. He was of the Christian faith and a member of The Lutheran Church. A self-described
health nut, Paul's daily routine included an early morning run of several miles, a
regimen he faithfully executed until just weeks before his death. Paul enjoyed classical music,
poetry, gardening/landscaping and, in younger years, flying his own plane. In 1955, he married
the love of his life, high-school sweetheart Betty Duvendeck. Together they raised 3 children.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Walter R. Young, wife Betty and daughter
Kathleen Richardson. He is survived by his sister Lillian Chadwick of Ocala, FL, daughter Susan
Potter of Smyrna, GA, son Robert Young of Hixson, TN, 4 nieces, a nephew, 7 grandchildren and 5
great grandchildren. Visitation will be Saturday, March 28, 2009 from 4-6 p.m. at Hiers-Baxley
TimberRidge Chapel, 9695 SW 110th Street, Ocala, FL. Interment will be at Memorial Burial Park at
Wheelersburg, OH, funeral arrangements by Brandt Funeral Home, Sciotoville, OH. Condolences may
