Ocala - Raymond Rance Wasson
Born October 25, 1918, in Huntsville, Arkansas, Ray passed away Monday, December 13, 2010, in Ocala. Ray is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patsy Jean Wasson; son, Rance Wasson (Marie) of Venita, Oklahoma; daughter Beth McCall (Wayne) of Ocala, Florida; daughter, Jeanie Garcia (Buck Waters) of Ocala, Florida; five grandchildren, Justin Garcia of Longview Texas; Nathan Garcia of Ocala, Florida; Diana Scroggie of Ocala, Florida,; Melody Hardy of Tampa, Florida, and Matt McCall of Boynton Beach, Florida; and five great-grandchildren. Ray served in the United States Navy from 1942-46. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in education from Northeastern Oklahoma University and earned his Master's Degree from Eastern New Mexico University. He worked for 26 years in the Hobbs, New Mexico Public School System serving as teacher, coach, principal and as Director of Personnel for 12 years. After retiring from the Hobbs School system, he joined his wife as a realtor with Wasson Realty. Ray and Pat moved to Ocala from Hobbs in 1992. He was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Ocala Lions Club. He was a mentor for Take Stock in Children, volunteered at The Silver River Museum and was a greeter at the Ocala Elks Club. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 PM Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala. A service celebrating Ray's life will be at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 800 SE. 41st Ave, Ocala, at 2 PM, on Friday, December 17, 2010. Interment will be at Highlands Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Take Stock in Children or the Silver River Museum (PO Box 670 - Ocala, FL 34478) or the scholarship fund of the Ocala Lions Club (PO Box 801 - Ocala, FL 34478).
