Obituary of Gary Gonyea

Gary L. "Popo" Gonyea, 62, passed away at Kindred Hospital - North Florida on June 15, 2011. He was born on December 30, 1948 to Walton Sr. and Rita Gonyea in Ludlow, Mass. Gary moved his family to Florida in 1973. He was an avid fisherman and was happiest when trudging through mountain streams in search of trout. He retired after working 23 years as a systems programmer for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida. Gary was a devoted husband, loving father and beloved grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Irina. Mother, Rita Gonyea. Daughters; Doreen Gray and Rita (Kevin) Hazlip. Brother, Walton Gonyea Jr. Sister, Sandra (Jim) Connor. Grandchildren; Ariel, Ashley, Kaitlin, Stefan, Crystal, Sean, Bryant, Amanda, Ronnie and Aiden as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Walton Gonyea Sr. A funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at 11:30 am at St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1649 Kingsley Avenue, Orange Park, FL 32073. A viewing will precede services at the church beginning at 10:30 am. A private burial will take place at a later date.
