Doherty, Charles Joseph
January 26th, 1936 - August 9th, 2011
Charles Joseph Doherty was born in Lynn, Massachusetts. He was one of six children. He served 8 years in the Army National Guard at Ft. Deyens, MA. As a young man he moved to Rhode Island where he met and married Dorothy. Chuck was very involved in the Coventry Tiogue Volunteer Fire Department. He served on the fire and rescue for several years as Lieutenant and Deputy department Chief. He also loved to have his hand in town politics. In 1973, he moved his family west and settled in Erick, Oklahoma, where he owned and operated Doherty's Grocery. He was a member of the Chamber and Rotary clubs. He also served on the board of the western Oklahoma chapter of Businessmen's Full Gospel Fellowship. In 1985, he and his family moved to Florida and settled in Ocala. Chuck was the Meat Market Manager at Salt Springs Grocery and at Reddick Grocery until he retired in 2010. Chuck is survived by his loving wife Dorothy Doherty (Ocala), 3 sons- Bryan Doherty (Ocala); Kevin Doherty (Ocala); and Shawn (Laura) Doherty (Ocala), 2 daughters- Deborah Allison (NY); Catherine Cameron (Ocala), 1 brother- Neal Doherty (MA), 2 sisters- Paula (Bill) Rowley (MA); Carol (Jim) Doherty (MA), 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents- Charles and Catherine Doherty, 1 son- Charles Jr., 2 sisters- Joan and Judy, and 1 sister-in-law- Ellen. A memorial service to honor the life of Charles will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, August 12, 2011 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, FL.
