So many thoughts flash through the mind, sometimes like a dream, sometimes like a breeze. The strong dark-haired guy I call Daddy loves to carry me, on his shoulders and in his heart. He let me rest on his chest many nights when rest was difficult for me, always there to comfort me. His 3 little pennies, always shining in his eyes. From measles at Halloween or a kindergarten graduation to chicken pox at Thanksgiving and Christmas. From a kid proud to sport an eye patch to broken windows from a boomerang (I swear I believed it was a boomerang). Another little girl with a pension for some trouble making became my moniker: Eloise. I remember the days at St. Joseph's and St. Michael's Churches, of being a "publican", the graduations, the weddings, the baptisms, all the things that mark a life, all because of you, celebrated and shared with you. Those special glimpses in my memory will always be cherished as are you. Your love, acceptance, and passion for your family and for me will be in my heart forever. I thank you for being my Daddy, Dad, Father and friend. I know you and Chris L. are preparing to greet us when God calls us to His Home and for that I am truly grateful. You lived, and now I will take your lessons and do the same. Your loving daughter, Charlotte

1929 - 2011. . . his dash having been so filled with love, joy, and pride.
The story begins with a lovely redhaired young woman and - to quote her- some guy in a lumber jacket who gave her a single red rose and 2 little girls and a lucky duck.
It might be hard to write with elegant and flourishing words to describe him. Yet the ones to truly describe him would be easy. For he was a simple man. His life and his love were for God, his beloved wife and his cherished children, and his country.
This is not a goodbye. We will not let our sorrow overcome our joy. You have taught us well throughout the years and we will carry those lessons with us forever. Always a part of our lives and, through us, as part of our children's and grandchildren's lives also, for we and they are your legacy.
How proud and honored to have had you in their lives. May they all inherit your grace, your charm, your sense of humor; especially your crazy yet wonderful made-up poems and sayings. May we all always count our piggies.
You raised us the best and we thank you. We shall remember the years of our youth when you became, though still are, our hero. When we close our eyes, we will think of you. You will be forever young, strong, when you held our hands, dried our tears, taught us to laugh and to love. You are not just a memory because you are that real part of us. Please know that if we cry, it is because we love you. Or perhaps it could also be said that if we cry, it is because you love us.
