Obituary of Leon Irwin Shoaf
Mr. Leon Shoaf, Sr., 92, long time resident of Ocala, died Tuesday, September 13, 2011 in Ocala. A native of Cates, Indiana, he grew up in Champaign, IL, where he was known for his athletic abilities. He and his family later moved to Ocala in 1943. Leon was well known in the Ocala area as a general contractor, having built numerous homes and businesses here. One of his favorite projects was the building of the Brahma restaurant, a long time Ocala landmark. For years he entertained Ocala residents as a DJ at local functions, especially the old Ocala Elks Club. His memberships include the Ocala Elks Lodge #286, and he was recognized several years ago as a lifetime Gator Booster. His survivors include his son Leon Shoaf, Jr. and his wife Jill; granddaughter Stacy Carroll and her husband Bill, great grandson Ace Eason; sister Judy Mallory of Umatilla, 3 step grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren, and his long time best friend Ray Musleh. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, September 17, 2011, at Highland Memorial Park Mausoleum, with Dr. John F. Few officiating. Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E.
