Obituary of Harry T. Hicken

Hicken, Harry T. Ocala - Harry T. Hicken, age 78, passed from this life on September 18, 2011. Mr. Hicken graduated from Ocala High School in 1950, where he was a head cheerleader and on the tennis team. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration. He was a member of the ROTC for 4 years graduating as a 2nd Lieutenant, and was in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. Mr. Hicken was also an Eagle Scout, and won awards such as the Distinguished Service Award, Junior Chamber of Commerce, and CWI Ocala Boss of the Year, and Ocala Exchange Club Man of the Year. He was Sr. Vice President of Fidelity Federal S & L and retired from Barnett Bank of Marion County, where he was Sr. Vice President of the Residential Mortgage Dept. Mr. Hicken was a very dedicated member of the Ocala Lions Club, where he was the past president, membership chairman, and awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow and the Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow. He was also a member of the Ocala Elks Lodge #286, and a life long member of First United Methodist Church. He was also an avid Gator fan from 1950-present. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Nancy Stroud Hicken; Daughters, Susan (Bill) English, Joni (Durwood) Howell, Laura (Duane) Miller; Granddaughters, Alysse (Mike) Prosnick, Sarah Howell, Abby Miller, Amanda Miller. He was preceded in death by his mother Eva Beatrice Harrison in 2003, father Frank Owen Hicken in 1979, and sister Patricia H. Bishop in 1982. A Memorial Service in honor of Harry will be Friday, September 23, 2011 at 3:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, Rev. Sue Haupert-Johnson, Rev. Allen Johnson. In lieu of flowers donations may be made at the Ocala Lions Club Charities Foundation, PO Box 801, Ocala, FL 34478. Arrangements are being handled by Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, Ocala, FL.
