Obituary of Betty C. Wood

Betty C. Wood, 88 passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Sylvia's Hospice House in Ocala, Florida. She was a life long resident of Fly Creek, N.Y. She was born March 15, 1923 in Hartwick, N.Y., the daughter of Edward Cross Jr. and Mabel (Turner) Cross and graduated from Cooperstown High School, class of 1940 in Cooperstown, N.Y. During World War II she worked at Bendix in Sidney, N.Y. to support the war effort and later at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, N.Y. as a Sr. Nursing Assistant on the maternity floor for 27 years, retiring in June 1982. She was a member of the Fly Creek United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Bernard C. Wood of Middlefield, N.Y. They were married in Cooperstown, N.Y. on January 27, 1946. She is survived by two daughters, Lynda Wood Munford and Son-in-law Joseph Munford of Palm Bay, FL. and Kathleen Wood Winnie and Son-in-law Richard Winnie of Ocala FL. 6 grandchildren, Heather White, Hayesville, N.C., Jennifer Munford, Atlanta, GA., Sarah Walker, Ocala FL., Christopher Winnie, Orlando FL., Vanessa Keys, Palm Bay, FL., and Karileigh Munford, Palm Bay, FL. 12 great grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Isabella, Dakota, Jessica, Kristina, Lauren, Alexander, Noah, Nolan, Ryan, and Amanda. Her love in life was her children, grand children and great grandchildren. There will be a private family viewing at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home in Belleview, as well as a cemetery memorial service in Fly Creek, N.Y. to be scheduled in October. Donations in her honor may be made to Hospice of Marion County, FL.
