Aunt Grace was an original. Everyone in the family has favorite Aunt Grace stories.
She grew up in hard times & learned to "use it up, wear it out, make do". Even after life got easier she never wasted anything.
After a meal she would save every uneaten morsel & it would reappear in a delicious soup or stew.
A full skirt she no longer wore would reincarnate by way of her sewing machine into a skort (a skirt/shorts mix).
One of my favorite "make do" stories was from way back when people were starting to add pudding mixes to cake mixes to make moister cakes. Aunt Grace heard about it & was eager to try it... on a night she had guests coming. Unfortunately, she was out of pudding mix so she used jello mix. It wasn't a moister cake but it sure was colorful. <g>
Aunt Grace was famous in the family for photography. She took pictures of every event & non-event that caught her interest. She literally wore out cameras with all the pictures she took. It's a shame that her eyesight forced her to give it up just before digital came out, she would have loved being able to take pictures & videos & see them right away.
We will miss Aunt Grace & her enthusiasm & energy...and we remember her with love.
