Obituary of Joyce Mary Dowd

JOYCE PRATT DOWD Lady Lake, Florida Joyce Dowd, 80, of Lady Lake, FL died January 06, 2012. Joyce was born in Burlington, VT on April 13, 1931 the daughter of Alice (Lynch) Pratt and Paul S. Pratt and grew up on Lakeview Terrace. She graduated from Cathedral High School, class of 1949 and Jeanne Mance School of Nursing in 1953. She was especially proud of being part of the first class to win "Stunt Night" all four years while in High School. On July 29, 1964 she married Dr. Benjamin S Dowd continuing to pursue her nursing career and education as she followed his academic career to Oregon, Tennessee, Texas and Alabama until their retirement in Florida. She is survived by her siblings, Paul L. Pratt & his wife Irene of Georgetown, TX, James L Pratt and his wife Judith of Wilbraham, MA, and sister Carolyn Yarrnell of Nokomis, FL. Besides her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin Dowd, and brother-in-law David Yarnell At Joyce's request there will be no visiting services at this time. The family will have private graveside committal for the cremated remains of Joyce and Ben at Resurrection Park Cemetery in So Burlington, Vt. later this summer.
