Obituary of Ivan Carson

CARSON, Ivan Mr. Ivan C. Carson, 94, of Candler, died Friday, January 20, 2012. He was born to the late Ellis and Gladys Carson on December 6, 1918, in Blackwell, OK. He served his country honorably during WWII in the Army Air Corps, completing more than 50 bombing missions over Europe and North Africa on a B-17 Bomber. He married the late Vivian Matlock in 1957. He retired from the U.S. Information Agency in Washington, D.C. in 1982. After retirement, Ivan and Vivian moved to Knoxville, TN before relocating to Ocala in 1994. He was a Master Mason for over 62 years, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Ocala, where he served as a Deacon. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Vivian; his parents, Ellis and Gladys; and three brothers, Wayne, Gene and Ronard. He is survived by two sons; Ken Carson of Cocoa, FL, and Richard Carson, Leesburg, FL. He is also survived by one sister, Donna (Jack) Smith of Hillsboro, TX; and his granddaughter Amy. Funeral services for Mr. Carson will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, with Mr. Timothy Beverly officiating. Interment will follow in Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until service time.
