Obituary of Carrie Virginia Rogers

CARRIE VIRGINIA ROGERS, AGE 102, of Ocala, FL passed away on Friday, January 27, 2012. She was born in Hampton, VA on September 25, 1909 to Lucy Smith and Alexander Banks. Carrie was raised in Hampton until the age of 13 when she moved with her mother to Yonkers, N.Y. Some years later, she met John Rogers at a block party in Harlem, NY. They enjoyed nearly sixty years of marriage. Most in Harlem with their children Connie, Sonny, and Gail. Their retirement years were spent in the Bronx with their Amazing border collie, Lucky. She loved serving her family, attending parties with close friends, big band music and Mario Lanza. Carrie worked as a Domestic Housekeeper for various families over a fifty year period. She visited with two of them well after she retired. Carrie is survived by her daughters Constance Thomas and Gail Corley, sister Ida Holmes, grandsons Darrell King, Howard King and Alan Corley, granddaughters Phillissia Amat and Rochelle White, great grandsons Lyron Bourke, Darrell King, Jr, Jon King, Adam Corley and Ryan Corley, great granddaughters Danielle Adderly, Shaniqua King, Anjoile King, Samara Amat, Ashley Ballancia, Gabriella Corley, Madison Corley and Isabella Corley, nephews James Wynder and Harold Anderson and niece Beverly Anderson. Carrie was predeceased by her husband John Rogers, her son John Rogers, Jr. and her grandson Brian Corley. A visitation will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, FL on Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 5-7pm. A funeral service will also be held at the funeral home on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 10am. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Ocala, FL.
