Obituary of Anthony Chester Olshefski

Anthony “Tony” Chester Olshefski passed away peacefully at his home on February 27th at the age of 85. He was born and raised in Alden, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Nancy Morgan Olshefski, his parents Anthony “Ginger” and Agnes Augustine Olshefski; and 6 siblings. Tony is survived by his wife of 13 years, Margaret Hall Olshefski; his only son Army Colonel (Retired) John Anthony and Sharon Olshefski of Huntsville Alabama; step-children: Dawn S. Townsend of Atlanta; Dana and David Hammond of Indianapolis, Greg Smith and WuShuang of Atlanta; 12 step-grandchildren and 10 great step-grandchildren. Tony was the youngest of seven children. He joined the U.S. Navy at age 19 (1952) and served for 25 years, retiring as Chief Warrant Officer 3. Tony served on the USS New Jersey, USS Annapolis, USS Telfair, and the USS Forrestal. He attended Hope Lutheran Church in The Villages. FL. Tony and Nancy moved into The Villages in 1993 and fully enjoyed “The Villages” lifestyle. An avid and gifted athlete, his passions were softball, bowling and particularly golf. He was quite proud that he had played all the Executive golf courses, completing his last round at Loblolly in December 2018 with his son. He was a faithful weekly player at Mira Mesa with his best buddy, Jack Weber, and in recent years, Don and Mary Anna Agnew, and Earl Swift. Tony and Margaret were married January 1, 2006. He proposed during Margaret’s late night shift as a nurse at The Villages Regional Hospital. Tony was blessed to have had such a loving and caring second wife, as well as to become a member of her beautiful family who wholeheartedly embraced him into their lives. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to: Cornerstone Hospice, 601 Casa Bella, The Villages FL 32159 or The Citadel Brigadier Foundation, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston SC 29409. A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, March 23rd, 2:00 p.m., at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 1511 Buenos Aires Blvd, The Villages 32159.
