Obituary of Gloria Shuman Gaines
Gloria Shuman Gaines, 94, of Summerfield, FL, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019 at home.
Gloria was born in Ocala Florida, the first of four daughters of George Washington Shuman and Olivia Toffaletti Shuman of Dunnellon, Florida.
She was a graduate of FSU with a Bachelor in Business. Gloria worked as a secretary in the State Dept. in Tallahassee where she met her husband Jack Mason Gaines shortly after WWII. They were married 63 years until his death. After raising her children she returned to school and earned her Teaching Degree and also attended Technical College to earn her Architectural Contractor's License, building homes in both FL & in NC.
Gloria is survived by her children, Joyce Gaines Bliss & her husband Bob of Mcdonough GA, Raymond Gaines & his wife Joan of Tallahassee FL, and Tommy Tieche & his wife Cheryl of Silver Springs FL.
She was Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Great, Great Grandmother to many survivors including grandchildren Jason Bliss & his wife Melanie of Atlanta, Josh Bliss & his wife Samantha of Conyers GA, Rachel Bliss Ewert & her husband Scott of Mcdonough GA, and Step-Grand daughter Amanda Dearing. Gloria was great grandmother to Julianne Bliss, Allison Bliss, Tyler Bliss, Ryder Ewert, Jaxon Ewert, & Elaina Ewert.
Gloria is also survived by two sisters, Nina Shuman of Sebring, FL & Sandra Pilon of Denver, CO.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents George & Olivia Shuman, her husband Jack M. Gaines, and her sister Leatrice Magic.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 12:30 PM at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
